I enjoy the transformation I experience when I reach a destination. My attitude changes, I become relaxed yet more aware at the same time. Stepping out of my car I feel the elements and take in my surroundings, I start to reconnect with a more primal self. Nature is beautiful, but also unforgiving. It commands respect and admiration. The privilege of passing through an expansive landscape, take in the glory of a flaming sunset or the vastness of the Milky Way as it stretches across the night sky, prompts me to reassess myself. It makes me re-examine my priorities and helps remind me of what is important and what is not. It reminds me that I need to be more grateful and release my cynicism and allow myself to be overwhelmed by the wonder that is the world around us. It is my hope that my photographs capture and express this attitude.
My wife is a great source of support. When I come home from a photography outing, I'm like an excited kid eager to show off what I did, and my wife patiently indulges me. She listens to my stories of how I captured this or that image and makes astute observations and provides constructive feedback that helps me to grow and my images to improve.
